Howard, Magic deal Hawks first home loss (AP)
Dwight Howard had 22 points and 17 rebounds, Vince Carter added 21 points and the Orlando Magic beat the Atlanta Hawks 93-76 on Thursday night. The Hawks, attempting to tie Phoenix for the NBA's best record, dropped to 11-4. They missed a chance to improve to 8-0 at home for the first time since 1993-94.

Thunder sign G Wilks to add depth (AP)

Shaq pays for 5-year-old girl’s funeral (AP)
Basketball star Shaquille O'Neal has paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl whose kidnapping and slaying received national news coverage. The Fayetteville Observer in North Carolina reported Thursday that the Cleveland Cavaliers player was touched by the case of Shaniya Davis. More than 2,000 people attended her funeral Sunday.

Suns earn 15th straight home win (AP)
After struggling against the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month, Amare Stoudemire vowed to make amends. He certainly has kept up his end of the bargain. Stoudemire scored 18 of his 28 points during a torrid third quarter and the Phoenix Suns beat the Memphis Grizzlies 126-111 Wednesday night for their 15th consecutive home victory.

Pistons lose Gordon to left ankle sprain (AP)
Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon did not play in the second half against the Cleveland Cavaliers because of a sprained left ankle and isn't sure when he will be back on the court. Gordon said, "I have no idea," when asked about the severity of the injury after the Cavs beat Detroit Wednesday night.

Cavs’ O’Neal says he’s ready to return (AP)
Shaq is ready to be back. Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said he'll know Friday if Shaquille O'Neal will return from his shoulder injury to play the Charlotte Bobcats. O'Neal doesn't sound like he needs to wait that long. "I'm playing," he said Wednesday night after the Cavs beat Detroit without him.
